Hit The Broom Podcast - Episode 8
Episode 8 of the Hit The Broom podcast is now available!
This week our episode is focused on The 2015 World Men's Championship, which runs March 28 - April 6th in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The United States team competing this year is led by John Shuster and includes Tyler George, Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner, and Trevor Host.
I spoke with John Shuster about his preparations for the competition. Shuster has competed in the World Championships five times and been a member of Team USA at three Olympic Winter Games - so he is no stranger to this level of competition. What makes this competition different than previous years? How is he using his experience to get his team ready for their turn on the world stage? We discussed all that and more.
Also... in this episode I shared some notes about the Women's World Championships from Aileen Sormunen, the skip for Team USA, who emailed me on her way back from the competition in Japan.
A little backgrounda about the Men's World Championships:
Twelve countires are represented in the Men's World Championships. In addition to the United States, there are teams from Canada, Norway, China, Russia, Czech Republic, Scotland, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Japan. In the round-robin preliminary round, each of the teams plays the rest of the field - eleven matches each. After that, the top four teams advance to a knockout round.
Team USA will face Canada in its first match on Saturday, March 28th.
